The Legends Award honors an individual who has made a significant contribution to his/her local union or NYSUT in Western New York. It is our coalitions way of having retirees in our area recognized for their tireless efforts and advocating for the retiree movement. The individual chosen is recognized at our Fall Luncheon and at the WNY Leadership Awards Program.
The 2024 NYSUT Retirees of WNY Legends Award winner is Sara Rodland. Sara is a Buffalo Public Schools Retiree. In retirement Sara continues her union involvement.
The 2023 WNY NYSUT Coalition Legends Award winner is Joanne McCartin. Joanne is a Grand Island retiree & has been an active member of the Retiree Coalition for 24 years.
The 2021 NYSUT Retirees Coalition Legends Award winner is Jane Kauffman. Jane is a Williamsville Retiree. In retirement Jane continued as a leader in NYSUT advocating for Retirees as well as on the Buffalo Central Labor Council.
This award honors members who have provided, throughout their careers, significant service and leadership to their local and state affiliates, as well as to their retiree council.
